![]() Ready, Set, Go A major part of this course is maintaining a sketchbook. You will have weekly assignments to help you build your sketchbook and develop it as an expression of you and your artwork. This weekend I want you to complete two tasks: 1. Mend, alter, edit and correct your sketchbook cover. It must be a functional cover ( many fell off last year) and contain the following: -a picture or drawing of you, -three symbols that represent you -it must contain your name. You have the challenge of combining these elements to make an artistic piece that you will have as your cover for the entire year! You may use any materials you want. 2. Set up an area in your house to create art. Gather supplies around your house and create an art bin or box with supplies for creating art. This way every time you have an assignment you won't have to waste time running around for supplies. Take a digital picture of this space and supply box and be prepared to show on your ipad on Monday. Where will you be a year from now?

"Speak Up - Your Voice Matters"
2012-2013 PSA & Poster Projects For the fifth consecutive year, Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc. and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office are launching the Public Service Announcement (PSA) Project in which middle and high school students may produce their own original 30- to 60-second Public Service Announcements about the importance of speaking up when they are informed of a potential danger to themselves or others. In addition, Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc. and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office are sponsoring a Poster Project, to display the importance of speaking up and speaking out! The winning poster will be distributed to schools throughout Middlesex County. The goal is for students to develop original PSAs and Posters, as a method in which to communicate a direct, positive message to other teens, in an effort to keep students safe. This project is open to all middle school and high school students who live in or attend school in Middlesex County. Students are the best communicators, whether it is hearing or sharing critical information which can help prevent a violent incident from occurring, or hearing about a friend who may be in danger of harming him or herself. When faced with information that could potentially be life altering and/or dangerous, it is imperative that students feel comfortable and empowered to share that information with a trusted and responsible adult. Additionally, it is important for students to understand the negative and harmful consequences that can result when this information is not communicated with a responsible adult who is in the position to help. Possible topics for the videos and posters include:
Middle and high school students are welcome to enter one or both projects. Please distribute the attached applications, and encourage students to submit entries to these projects. Poster entries are due by January 4, 2013. PSA entries will be due by May 3, 2013. Click here for PSA application and requirements. Click here for the poster application and requirements.
