AAPI Activism Day

This year the sophomore English Curriculum expanded to include the book "When the Emperor Was Divine" by Julie Otsuka.

After the students read this book they had the chance to hear David Sakura share about his experience at Minadoka during WWII incarceration as a Japanese American child.

The Students for Asian Cultural Awareness spent the day together. The students discussed David Sakura and what they learned from his story. 

After David Sakura spoke to all of the sophomores the Students for Asian Cultural Awareness met for a day of "Activism".

The Day included the following activities for students:

• Letter writing to David Sakura
  
• Letter writing to teachers for  more AAPI Curriculum
  
• Create Poetry, Short Story or Art About Japanese American Incarceration
  
• Pick Out AAPI Book to read
  
• Write letter to English Teacher recommending AAPI Literature to incorporate into curriculum
  
• Create List of AAPI movies for Teens
  
• Create List of AAPI movies for Kids
  
• Create List of AAPI books for Elementary Schools
