The Burlington Education Foundation sponsored William Duffy’s Artist Residency last spring. During the three day residency Mr. Duffy taught Art and Social Studies students in the ninth grade. Students learned about the process of creating a public sculpture, made their own sculpture and generated ideas that Mr. Duffy will use to create a future sculpture for the the town. The sculpture will represent aspects of the identity of the community.

The exhibition in the Cambridge Street Gallery includes a bronze sculpture and plaster sculpture from William Duffy as well as ceramic portrait sculptures from art and history students.

Information about the artist residency can be found here http://bhssculptureproject.wordpress.com/

Biography of William Duffy
Nationally recognized artist and alumnus William Duffy created the sculpture in 1973 that now
resides in the main lobby of Burlington High School.

William Duffy was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1953.  His childhood was spent observing nature in rural Massachusetts which has greatly influenced his outlook and inspired his art.  He graduated from Burlington high school enrolled in a concentrated fine arts program under the tutelage of Elinor Marvin.  He holds a Fine Arts Diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, and a MFA from University of Maryland at College Park in 1983.  Four years of experience in state-of-the-art foundry techniques gained at Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture in Princeton, New Jersey, has prepared him to direct and execute all phases of design, fabrication, and installation of his large-scale public art projects.  Currently Bill Duffy maintains a studio in Baltimore, Maryland.

William Duffy is one of favorite sculpture. His work for the street gallery was very good. I really liked the way the BHS students and William conducted the event. Thanks a lot for posting this page and giving a glimpse of the good work they do.
