Project Description:
Combine digital photographs of friends, animals, and natural objects into a “grotesque”

Objectives:

• Use the Liquify tool in Adobe Photoshop
• Master blending and layering using tools/techniques such as: color modes (multiply, etc.), opacity, soft-edged brushes and erasers
• Use exaggeration and odd combinations to add visual impact to an artwork

Materials:
Adobe Photoshop

Parameters:
Format as follows:

• Width: 7.5 inches (at least)
• Height: 10 inches (at least)
• Resolution: 300 pixels/inch
• Color Mode: RGB

Steps:

1. Create a New (Letter-sized) Document , using the format above.
2. Save it as "Morph yourlastname.psd"
3. Take a series of digital photographs of friend(s), animals at home and/or in the Science Center, and other objects as needed.
4. Open the photos in Photoshop.
5. Copy and paste the first photo into your new Morph document and resize it to fill the picture plane.
6. Combine photos with smooth, blending transitions. To do this, on one of your other photos, using the Lasso tool to select around a face, feature, or part; then Feather the selection by going to Select ( in the menu bar at top of screen) - Modify - Feather, and changing the number to 15, 20, or 30; then Copy your selection. You will see that when you Paste the selection onto the other photo, the feathering will make a soft/cloudy edge that smoothly transitions the combined photos.
7. To help align one face with another, you can reduce the Opacity of the upper layer (in the Layers palette in the bottom right corner) so that it becomes slightly more transparent, then use the Move tool (arrowheads at top of Tools palette) to shift one photo over another.
8. You can erase parts of photos using a softer edge. To do this, go the the options palette of the brush or eraser (the horizontal bar near the top of your screen) and change reduce the Hardness of the brush/eraser while increasing the Size.
9. When you paint, to make the colors more transparent (For example, when adding something like eye shadow), reduce the Opacity of the layer in the Layers Palette, OR reduce the Opacity of the Brush using the options menu for the brush (horizontal bar near top of screen). You must first select the Brush tool in the Tool Box before you can see these options. You can also change the Color Mode (in either Layers or Brush Options) from Normal to something else (such as Multiply). Experiment to see what works best.
10. To transform a selection or layer, click that layer in the Layers palette, then use Edit - Free Transform to rotate or resize the selections. Double click within the selection when you're happy with the changes.
11. Use Filter - Liquify to push, pucker, and bloat parts of the image to exaggerate the features and/or to make the the layers better fit one another.
12. Add additional textures by layering additional textured photos over the head photos.

     (Be sure to include a background/environment.)

Grading Criteria:​

• Inventiveness
• Cleanliness of selections / Convincing combination of objects (A viewer cannot tell that they've been combined from separate photos.)
• Smooth transitions between one object and another
• Design (Visual impact)
• Work habits

Tips to Get Started:

• Take photos using good natural light (i.e. go near a window, or even outside.).
• Turn off the flash of the camera.
• Take the photos close up, with a minimum of empty space above the head.
• Take photos from the same angle on all your subjects (For example, if you take it straight on for one friend, take it that way for all other subjects.).

PROJECT
Using Photoshop, create an animated .GIF from 2 of your Kaleidoscopes.

PROCESS:
First save 2 of your Kaleidoscopes as .jpgs and place them on your drive.

TO CREATE .GIF in PHOTOSHOP:

1. Open Photoshop
2. Create new document 
   Name: Animated_Kaleidoscope
   Size: 1000 pixels width x 1000 pixels height |
   DPI: 150 dpi 
   Background: transparent
3. File> Place Embedded (Select your Kaleidoscope that you saved as .jpg)
4. Repeat  File> Place Embedded (to add your 2nd Kaleidoscope .jpg)
5. OPEN Window>Timeline
6. In the Timeline Window > Select > Create from Animation
7. Select Timeline Menu ( 3 lines, locate on the side of Timeline Window)
8. Select Make Frames from Layers
9. Set the Time on each frame (.5 second on each frame)
10. File Export> Save for Web (Legacy) 
11. Select .GIF - Adaptive - SAVE

TO CREATE .GIF in PHOTOPEA

1. Open Photopea
2. Create new document 
   Name: Animated_Kaleidoscope
   Size: 1000 pixels width x 1000 pixels height 
   DPI: 150 dpi 
   Background: Transparent
3. Open & Place > Select your Kaleidoscope that you saved as .jpg
4. Repeat  Open & Place > Select your 2nd Kaleidoscope  .jpg
5. add _a_ to the beginning of each layer name, by double clicking layer
6. Export as > .GIF
7. Format .GiF
   Size: 1000 pixels width x 1000 pixels height 
   Quality: 100%
   Speed: 32% ( or faster if you prefer)
   Repeat: 0
   SAVE
   

PROJECT:
Create two Kaleidoscope designs from two different images using Photoshop.

Project Objectives:

• Use tools to crop, transform, and rotate to create their designs.
• Use multiple reflections, flipping, rotating, and mirroring the same image repeatedly to create a Kaleidoscope pattern.
• Apply and experiment with layer blend modes to see how different blend modes can affect and change visuals in Photoshop.

BEFORE YOU CREATE YOUR KALEIDOSCOPES

• SELECT COLOR DETAILED HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTOS.
• AT LEAST 300 DPI

STEPS TO CREATE YOUR KALEIDOSCOPES

1. ​Open your photo in Photoshop.
2. Use the crop tool eliminate any non-detailed areas from your photo
   you want to crop the photo to a very small area that has alot of detail.
   You should really see the original image any longer.
3. SAVE cloud document- Last name_Kaleidoscope.psd
   
   

EXTEND CANVAS, ROTATE, FLIP, DUPLICATE ​

1. EXTEND CANVAS Go to image> canvas size In the canvas window change size to Width 200 percent - Height 100 percent keep relative box unchecked Anchor box move points to the left middlebox. Hit Ok. This will expand the page size to allow the image to be flipped and rotated again.
2. Duplicate image layer  menu > layer > duplicate layer
3. Select the move tool, Hold down the shift key and drag the Background copy image to the right to fill the open area.
4. While on the background copy layer -- Go to Menu > Edit> Transform>Flip Horizontal. You've created a mirror reflection of the image to the right.

• Hold down the option key and Go to Menu > Layer > Merge Visible this will create a third layer joining the background images. SAVE FILE

6. Duplicate Layer 1 image layer (dragging image layer onto a new layer icon or go to menu > layer > duplicate layer
7. While on Layer 1 copy Go to Menu >Select > All Go to Menu > Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 Clockwise
   
   

CROP DOWN THE IMAGE

• Hold down the command key and double click on layer thumbnail this will select the image - Go to Menu >Image>Crop this will give us a square-shaped image

SAVING THE FILE TO THE RIGHT SIZE 

• File> Image Size Change Image box details to
• Resolution 150 --
• Width 1000 pixels -- Height 1000 pixels
• SAVE FILE

Objective:
Create an image using photoshop that demonstrated your understanding of photoshop and how to merge multiple images to create a forced perspective work of art. Use original photos that you take to create this ORIGINAL work of art.

Outside of school take photographs of the sky, landscape, and nature
Outside of school take photos of your hands, feet, body in a variety of positions
Search in your camera roll for photographs that you could use. Photos of objects, pets and people are good.
Collage and merge photos together to create your own forced perspective work of art.
