Art History Challenge #4

4/23/2013

Do Kindergarteners know more art history than you?

Take a look at the art history poster hanging on the wall with our Design Assignments. It is from Ms. Cook's kindergarten class at Francis Wyman. The kindergarteners can recognize and name all of the artists on the poster. Can you?

Assignment:
Part 1:
Create a new file in your art history folder titled "Art History Challenge #4"
Write an essay responding to the question "Do kindergarteners know more art history than me?".
Explain and list which artist you knew or did not know. Describe when and where you have seen these works of art. Do you think that we have enough art history in school why or why not? Is there value in recognizing these and knowing these artists? Why or why not?

Part 2:
Select one of the artists that you did not know. Create a collage on your ipad of that artist's work. Select 10-15 of their images. Include their full name, date of birth and death, materials that the artist used and what style of art they created.

Clay Inspiration

4/2/2013

Objective:
Gather a collection of images of artists who have used clay in inspirational ways.

Assignment:
Create two separate collages on your ipad of 15-20 images each from various artists who use clay to create works of art. One collage will be of " functional" ceramics ( bowls, teapots, plates, vases, etc.)
and the other collage will be of non-functional or "art for art's sake" ceramic works of art.

Include the names of the artists on the collage or a separate document so that you can refer to them later.
You will be sharing these collages with your classmates and discussing them as a group.
