Emphasis is defined as an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point. Subordination is defined as minimizing or toning down other compositional elements in order to bring attention to the focal point.     Objective: Create a still life painting of food that activates the composition by using a focal point Steps: 1. Set up a still life of food 2. Photograph the still life and create an active composition 3. Define your focal point of the painting 4. Set up a palette of complimentary colors 5. Create a painting that captures the food utilizing texture 6. Critique and edit painting Evaluation: 1. Craftsmanship 2. Composition 3. Defined focal Point 4. Participation  Today you will work with a partner to create a series of blind contour drawings of each other.  |
