Paper Bag Drawing

Objective: 
Create a graphite drawing of a paper bag or groups of bags that shows vale and texture.

Steps:
1. Select a still life of the paper bags. Create a drawing of the bags
2. Use the graphite sticks and pencils to create a broad range of values
3. Include a background and show the light source

Ribbons of Awareness Drawing

Objective:
Create a pencil drawing utilizing the techniques practiced to create a drawing that shows the meaning and purpose of an awareness ribbon.

Steps:
1. Discussion around the meaning and impact that art can have on society. 
2. Watch TED talk by Candy Chang
3. Research awareness ribbons and their meaning
4. Select a color ribbon that you would like to use in your drawing
5. Research the history, meaning and role of that ribbon and organization
6. Write, brainstorm and sketch ideas for how you could create a still life, or scene that contains that color ribbon.
** you will use color pencil for the ribbon and graphite for the rest of the drawing

Objectives: 
  • Create a value chart in ten steps creating tints and shades of all primary and secondary colors.
  • Create a value chart using a complementary set in ten steps.
  • Learn how to mix colors to create a chosen value, hue and intensity.
  • Learn how to dull and darken colors by mixing complements.
  • Gain experience using various brush strokes and paint application techniques used by Impressionists.

Instructions:
  • Select an image from the "masters" of Impressionism of a landscape. It must include background, middle ground and foreground.
  • Print the image
  • Cut a strip of the image that shows the field of depth
  • Mount the strip onto the canvas board with gel medium ( be sure to get all of the air bubbles out and make entirely smoothly surface)
  • Create an underpainting with a thin layer of paint that completes the composition
  • Apply paint and colors in a variety of ways illustrating the field of depth in the picture
  • Create a broad range of values by mixing colors and applying complimentary colors in close proximity

Objective: Create an acrylic painting of spheres using four different paint applications

Instructions: 
Read and understand four different techniques posted in the room
Set up easel, sphere and spotlight
Set up paint materials
Divide canvas sheet into four sections
Create four paintings of spheres using different applications of paint
Clearly define all of the values of the sphere

Materials:
8" x 10" canvas sheet
Acrylic paints
Hog hair flat size 8 brush
Hog Hair round size 6 brush
Water cups
paper towels

Evaluation:
Application of paint
Ability to mix neutrals
Ability to render accurate values of the sphere
Maintain art supplies and equipment

Create a line drawing on acetate of a subject of your choice that lays over an abstract watercolor painting

Steps:
Create a line drawing on acetate with a permanent marker
Use a variety of lines to create the image
Use watercolors to create an abstract image with a distinct color scheme
Lay the acetate over the image
Cut acetate larger that the image
Wrap around cardboard and tape the back of the board

Still Life Art- Critique

Today you will examine the work of artists who created still life drawings and paintings. 

Read this document on the 4 Steps to Critique Works of Art

You will need to describe, analyze, interpret and evaluate the still life drawings and paintings of these artists. 

Please complete all work on the ipad in Evernote or other app that allows you to combine writing and images.

Exam the work of following artists:

Jan Brueghel the Elder 
Vincent Van Gogh
Paul Cezzane 
GIORGIO MORANDI
Henri Matisse 
Fernand Leger 
Wayne Theibaud
Janet Fish

Select two works of art and place into a document and write the following on each work of art:

Name the artist
Name the work of art
Describe the artwork in detail, include subject, materials used, etc.
Analyze the work of art
Interpret the work of art
Evaluate the work
 **Refer to the 4 Steps to Critique Art to complete this section

Please proof read you work and save into a folder labeled Drawing and Painting

Objective: Demonstrate your understanding of mixing acrylic paints to create a value scale 

Assignment: 
On the 5 x 10 inch mat board create two values scales with ten steps
One value scale will go from white to black. The other value scale will have two complimentary colors with will be mixed to create an intensity scale.
