Please get a sketchbook that is 11" x 14" with 60lb. paper or greater. *any brand is fine but it must be the right size! Use coupons for Micheal's and AC Moore 2. Project: Create a drawing or painting using a medium of your choice that demonstrates your understanding of the material and the elements and principles of design. The artwork must be a minimum of 8” x 10” and represent your highest quality work. Your last sketchbook assignment is a choice based assignment. It should take 2 hours to work on and should be a high quality work of art. Evaluation: Grading Criteria: • 25% Visual impact (color harmony, good composition) • 25% Use of materials • 25% Level of Creativity • 25% Craftsmanship Emphasis is defined as an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point. Subordination is defined as minimizing or toning down other compositional elements in order to bring attention to the focal point.
Objective: Create a still life painting of food that activates the composition by using a focal point
Steps: 1. Set up a still life of food 2. Photograph the still life and create an active composition 3. Define your focal point of the painting 4. Set up a palette of complimentary colors 5. Inspirational Figure 1. Examine the work of artist Shepard Fairey. Read NY Times review of Shepard Fairey http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/18/arts/design/18fair.html 2. Choose a person from television, movies or society in general and design a poster about that person that highlights why they are inspirational to YOU. Include their portrait, as well as their name or a message you believe they stand for. Include the image you used to draw their portrait. (Refer to the political poster by artist Shepard Fairey of President Barack Obama.) 3. Sketch multiple ideas and points of view as well as possible words and text 4. Discuss and critically analyze and then select the strongest idea 5. Select colors and materials 6.
