Mid-Year Exam

The midterm exam is made up of two parts. 
Part 1 needs to be completed prior to the day of the exam and Part 2 will be done during the exam time. No late projects will be accepted.

Take Home Portion of Exam: Part 1- Art and essay
  1. Self Portrait in style of famous artist  - 70%
Instructions:
    • Select a book on an artist at the library
    • Research and look at examples of the artist’s work
    • Sketch ideas for your self portrait that will be created in the same style and medium as the artist you are studying. 
    • The minimum size is 12” x 18” the maximum size is 16” x 20"
    • Select materials that best suit the style of the artist you picked
    • Create a self portrait in the style of the artist that you selected 
2. Essay on the famous artist- 20%
Instructions: Type a one page single spaced essay on the artist that you selected. 
Please include the following:
      • -Full name of the artist
      • -Date of Birth and death
      • -Place of birth
      • -Style of artwork
      • -Types of art created and mediums or materials used
      • -Biography
      • -Important events in their life
You must include a works cited page. Use the citation maker on the school website for help.
Place your essay into the google drive folder labeled: Mid Year Exam Essay on Artist

Grading Criteria:
Self Portrait Project-70%
    1. Composition                                       20%
    2. Use of Materials                                 15%
    3. Ability to create a self portrait      20%
    4. Craftsmanship                                    15%
Essay on Artist- 20%
      1. Facts about artist 10%
      2. Content and Quality of Writing  10%

Descriptive Essay -self evaluation of self portrait 10%
Write an essay describing and self- evaluating the self portrait 
Answering the following questions:

Who was the artist that you studied? 

What style of art did they create? 

What medium and materials did they use to create their works of art? 

How did you translate their style into a self- portrait of you? 

What materials and medium did you use? 

What colors, style and attributes did you use? 

Do you think that you accurately captured yourself? 

Does the portrait look like you? Why or why not?

Spelling and grammar do count, but we are much more concerned with content.

Each spelling error -1 point
Each grammatical error -1 point
